Port Coquitlam Orthodontist Dr. Terry Bianco (Dr. B)

NATIONAL ORTHODONTIC HEALTH MONTH

While enjoying a “spook-ta-cular” Halloween month, how about some ‘braces-friendly’ treats?

Fall is a great time to enjoy thinly sliced fresh apples, dipped in yogurt, or creamy chocolate sauce.  Treats such as plain chocolate candy, and peanut butter cups can also be enjoyed while in braces.  Other Fall treat ideas are soft, moist pumpkin raisin, or zucchini muffins?

Be sure to brush and floss afterwards!

Some foods should be avoided for the relatively  short time you are in braces.  It is a good idea not to eat sticky, chewy, hard or crunchy foods.  They are best left until treatment is finished and you can celebrate your beautiful smile.

If food does damage braces, please call for an appointment, and have the problem dealt with.

For “Trick or Treat Night” – remember –

Young children should be accompanied by an adult.

It is a good idea to carry a flashlight.

Light coloured or reflective costumes are safer.

Facepaint is better than masks for young ghosts and goblins.

Have an adult inspect candy before eating any.
